The video from LackLuster revisits the February 2024 traffic stop of Ian Cuypers in Superior, Wisconsin, showing video footage of the event and analyzing the ensuing debate over officers’ actions, Cuypers’ response, and potential legal outcomes.

Officer Jarid Rankila separated from the Superior Police Department following a misconduct review that resulted in the dismissal of several criminal cases. District Attorney Mark Fruehauf declined to file charges, and the City of Superior finalized administrative employment actions in accordance with policy.

In March 2023, the City of Superior and City Clerk Camila Ramos executed a separation agreement detailing the terms of her departure. The document covers pay, benefits, return of City property, and mutual obligations, including confidentiality and release provisions.

In October 2016, the City of Superior agreed to a $50,000 settlement with Natasha Lancour, who alleged Officer George Gothner used excessive force during a 2014 arrest. Though investigations cleared Gothner of policy violations, city attorney Frog Prell said the settlement was reached to avoid trial. Chief Nick Alexander highlighted department efforts to improve training and community trust.

On November 4–7, 2011, the City of Superior Police and Fire Commission held a formal disciplinary hearing to consider charges against Officer Kirk M. Babic. Attorneys Frog Prell, Rick Gondik, and James Korom presented arguments, and testimony was heard from multiple officers and city officials, including Chief Floyd Peters and Mayor Bruce Hagen. The commission entered closed session to deliberate and prepare its decision.

On June 21, 2022, Wisconsin DNR officials Cherie Hagen and Steven LaValley contacted City of Superior Planning Director Jason Serck about correspondence related to the Fred Paine property easement. Serck replied that he would reach out to the property owner for updates, reflecting ongoing DNR–city coordination on local easement administration.

On December 10, 2018, City Attorney Frog Prell and Wisconsin DNR attorney Richard W. Henneger discussed a City of Superior easement issue involving a DNR bird habitat. Prell involved Planning Director Jason Serck to help identify alternative parcels to offset an easement area that appeared to have been compromised.
