SoupNutz Plain-English Disclaimer

Welcome to SoupNutz.

This website publishes satire, opinion, and civic commentary about local government, public policy, and public officials — especially in Superior, Wisconsin. We use humor, sarcasm, exaggeration, and strong opinions. That’s intentional. If it sounds sharp, that’s the point.

Not Straight News

SoupNutz is not a traditional news outlet. While we may reference public meetings, voting records, government documents, court filings, or other publicly available information, this site is commentary — not official reporting. Always verify facts independently before relying on anything you read here.

Nothing on this site is legal, financial, or professional advice.

No One Is Presumed Guilty

Unless specifically supported by verified public records, court documents, or official statements, nothing on this site should be interpreted as accusing anyone of committing a crime.

No individual discussed — including elected officials, city employees, political candidates, private citizens, or police officers — is presumed guilty of criminal conduct. Criticism of decisions, policies, voting patterns, or public actions does not equal an allegation of criminal wrongdoing.

If civil lawsuits, including civil rights lawsuits, are referenced, those references are based on publicly filed legal actions. A lawsuit is an allegation, not proof of liability. Individuals and agencies named in civil litigation are presumed not liable unless and until a court determines otherwise.

Public Officials & Public Scrutiny

Public office comes with public scrutiny. We critique policies, leadership decisions, spending priorities, and public behavior. That is part of civic discourse.

Commentary about mayors, council members, administrators, law enforcement leadership, or other public officials reflects opinion and analysis — not criminal accusations.

Law Enforcement

When we discuss policing, public safety, or law enforcement budgets, we are addressing public policy, accountability, and governance. If we reference incidents involving police officers — including claims of excessive force, misconduct, or civil rights violations — those references are based on publicly available records or filed legal complaints.

Discussion of such matters does not mean any officer has been found guilty of criminal wrongdoing or civil liability unless clearly stated as established by a court.

Institutional criticism is not the same as individual accusation.

Satire & Style

We use satire and rhetorical flair. Headlines may be dramatic. Metaphors may be sharp. Humor may be blunt. That’s part of the format.

If you’re looking for neutral press releases, this isn’t that.

Corrections

If you believe a factual error exists, provide verifiable documentation and we will review it. If a mistake is confirmed, we will correct it.

Legal Standards & Public Figures

Many individuals discussed on this site hold public office or are public figures. Under U.S. law, commentary about public officials is protected speech. Statements of opinion, rhetorical hyperbole, satire, and fair criticism are constitutionally protected.

SoupNutz does not publish knowingly false statements of fact. We do not act with reckless disregard for the truth. Commentary is based on publicly available information and interpretation thereof. Any claim presented as fact is intended to reflect information reasonably believed to be accurate at the time of publication.

Bottom Line

SoupNutz exists to comment on public affairs — not to declare guilt, spread rumors, or publish unverified claims. Readers are responsible for interpreting content within that context.

If you don’t agree with this approach, you’re free to close the tab.
